From 1910 to 1917, Mexico underwent a turbulent revolution that turned the country upside down. The new 1917 Constitution sought to destroy Catholicism and subvert religion in the populace, with disastrous consequences. What followed in the 1920s and '30s under the atheistic, communist government of Plutarco Calles was a series of harsh, bloody persecutions and a counter-revolution by Catholics, collectively titled the Cristero War.
Mexican Martyrdom is a collection of true stories from these terrible anti-Catholic persecutions. Told by Jesuit Fr. Wilfrid Parson, these stories are based upon cases he had seen himself or that had been described to him personally by the people who had undergone the atrocities of those times. These pages are filled with intense stories of those who chose to die rather than forsake Christ the King.

Mexican Martyrdom
This is an excellent book; read it the first time many years ago. Didn't know Communism entered Mexico in 1917 under President Carranza. I saw a "hidden convent" when I first visited Mexico in 1956. Be sure to read this book to understand some sad Mexican history.

Es sollten nicht die Greul- und Gewalttaten der Katholischen Kirche vergessen werden.
Man sollte aber trotzdem auch nicht vergessen, was die Katholische Kirche im Namen Christi, wie sie es selbst oft genug gesagt haben, getan haben. Sie haben den Menschen in Europa, den amerikanischen Ureinwohnern und anderen Erdteilen in der Welt das Christentum gewaltsam aufgezwungen, vor allem den Heiden und Urchristen. Wer sich ihnen nicht unterwerfen wollte wurde als Ketzer verfolgt, gefoltert und getötet. Das beste Beispiel dafür war die Inquisition in Europa, bei den Katharern und die Hexenverbrennungen. Wieviel oftmals unschuldige wurden dabei getötet? Wer denkt denn heutzutage an das Leid dieser Opfer? Wurde die Katholische Kirche dafür jemals zur Verantwortung gezogen? Nein!!! Bis heute nicht. Ihr nennt die Katholischen Beteiligten hier in diesem Buch unschuldig. Ob sie wirklich unschuldig sind steht auf einem anderen Blatt. Ich bin weder kirchlich noch kommunistisch, nur vergesse ich die Tatsache nicht was sie in der Vergangenheit getan haben und immer noch tun. Und es hat sich bis in die heutige Gegenwart nichts geändert.
